The Kotel, or the Western Wall, is a section of the western supporting wall of the Temple Mount. It Located in Yerushalayim’s old city, the wall has remained intact since the destruction of the Second Beit Hamikdash, the Jewish Temple .

The Kotel is considered a place of utmost holiness and spiritual significance due to its proximity to the Kodeh Ha’kedoshim, the Holy of Holies. Our holy Rabbis teach us that the Shechina, Hashem’s Divine Presence, has never departed from the wall which was originally donated by Israel’s poor and destitue.

Over the long galut (diaspora) the Kotel has served as a center for mourning over the Beit Hamikdash’s destruction and for Bnei Yisrael’s exile, as well as a beacon of hope reminding us of its imminent rebuilding be’ezrat Hashem.
