Rav Shlomo Zalman’s love and respect for his fellow Jew was legendary. Jews all over felt experienced
recognized the genuineness of his warmth. As a matter of fact upon his passing an estimated 300,000
people came to pay Rav Shlomo Zalman their last respects.
But the respect & consideration that ha had for others is perhaps best exemplified by his relationship
with his wife. On the 12th of Tevet 5744, at the levaya (funeral), Rav Shlomo Zalman said that "Although
it is customary to ask for forgiveness from a niftar I shall not do so. Throughout our entire marriage
we never offended or hurt one another. We conducted our lives according to the Shulchan Aruch, and
therefore I have no reason to ask her for forgiveness."
